Why is it that a Chevy SUV V8 sound so different than a bmw v8?

why is is that a chevrolet v8 engine or a ford or like some random american v8 engine in an suv sound like a rough "hurrdurrdurrdurdurdurdurdurdurdur" and other v8's in sedans sound like a normal "hummmmm"?
